Custom Ponies

A custom pony is a pony who is purchased by a family and comes to PonyPros for 4-6 months of training before going home. PonyPros helps you pick the pony with the right temperament and breeding, and we train the pony however you like. The cost of the pony and training combined is about $3500-$5500.

A family begins by picking out a pony, usually an unstarted pony from a breeder. Buying an unstarted pony is most suitable for families where the mom showed growing up and can help the kids learn. The advantage of buying an unstarted pony is that there is a greater selection, the base price is lower, and they have no bad habits. Most "trained" ponies on the market are somewhat hot because of being rushed through their start under saddle, or are naughty and heavy on the aids because they are thought of as a babysitter.

Families who will do best with a young pony believe that training is a natural and fun part of ownership.
