Crossrail On the Mark (Markey)

1995, 12-12'2h Sec B Welsh Gelding $2500

(Llanarth Casino X Northwind Llangloh)

Markey did h/j and pony club when he was younger and has been out to pasture for a few years. He came to PonyPros Feb 6th to find a home. Markey remembers everything well and will soon be tuned-up and ready for a lucky child.

Markey always has his head out the stall door looking for pets and watching the goings-on. He is a real ham for attention. He loves to lick your hands and clothes, which is so endearing.

Markey has very smooth gaits and is very balanced. He is light on the aids and forward moving. He takes his leads both directions and goes great in just a halter. He doesn't require any pre-ride preparation - just pull him out and go.

Markey is awesome for longeline lessons. While he is forward-moving riding independently, he trots slow and smooth one the longe. The kids say they, "Like his back." He's a little on the round side :)

Though he's only 12'2h, Markey is big bodied and looks great carrying kids as old as 13. Because of his build, he's fun and easy for an adult to tune up.

Markey looks beautiful trotting long and low but can also go more collected. He is very handsome and kids and adults often remark that he looks like a, "Fairytale Unicorn" or "Princess Pony."

Because he did a lot of advanced riding in his younger years, Markey has a charismatic trot. Over fences, he has a round, scopey jump with square knees. We are working with him on trotting slower on the rail and teaching him that beginners like lazy jumps. It is nice, though, that it is easy for the kids to get him to go. You can get a sense of his trot in the videos.

Before coming to PonyPros in early February, Markey had not been introduced to natural horsemanship. We are working with him on Parelli Level 1 and he is learning the 7 games. Markey really likes to have his whithers scratched and is a bit pushy about standing in front of you where you are in prime placement to scratch them. We except he will have a better sense of ground work soon.

Markey is a bundle of fun and has a joyful spark. He is very easy for the kids to steer and can't get enough attention. He stands well to be groomed and tacked up and is really enjoying learning all kinds of new things.

Feb 27 Update:
Markey went on his first trail ride with us Feb 27. He was great! Kept a steady pace and stayed with the group. One of our 12 year old students, Chloe, rode him bareback in a halter. He wanted to eat a little bit but was very manageable. He did not spook once and smiled with his eyes the whole time.

Markey is 12 year old Chloe's favorite pony to ride. Before Markey, she had only ridden bareback once before, but she is now cruising around bareback on Markey every chance she gets. The part that excites her most is that she has learned to canter on him! Markey is a great horse to learn to canter on because he takes his leads and is always ready to come back to the trot.
